Welcome to the Institute for Physical Science and Technology!

We aim to foster excellent interdisciplinary research and education in the physical sciences and
technology, at the University of Maryland, College Park.

We accomplish our mission by attracting distinguished and creative mathematicians, scientists, and
engineers who work at the intersection of traditional disciplines; by recruiting outstanding young
faculty and postdoctoral fellows; by catalyzing vibrant new research directions that engage faculty
from multiple academic units; by collaborating with researchers from national laboratories; by
nurturing international ties through graduate student and faculty exchange and visitor programs; and
by developing new educational models for training students, scientists, researchers and
professionals.
