Laurent G.J. Montési
Professor of Geology

Research Interests: Our research group studies how the Earth and other planets are deforming and evolving over geological time scales. This research involves the development of Finite Element models of mantle flow, fault development and melt migration, with a fundamentally multidisciplinary approach. For example, we couple rheological evolution and deformation to produce localized shear zone, or couple thermodynamic and thermal models. Numerical challenge include multiphysics and multiscale processes, large deformation, adaptive mesh refinement, and the adoption of a Bayesian statistics framework for assimilation of many types of observations into our models.
