UMD Physicist Helps Sculpt Quantum Mechanics into Reality
Nicole Yunger Halpern (IPST / Physics / QuICS) teamed up with Bruce Rosenbaum, an artist, to create a sculpture that brings quantum concepts to life.
After a long and arduous effort that started in 2020, during which other UMD faculty and staff members gradually joined in, the dedication and work of this group finally culminated in bringing to life a sculpture that marks the current moment in research and technological achievements in quantum mechanics, "Age of Quantum 2.0," as it has been referred to by many, including William Phillips (IPST / Physics), a member of the group.
The artwork is an eight-inch diameter sculpture that marries steampunk with quantum physics.
